Marshalls surprise retirement celebration guests with wedding

When individuals received an invitation stating, “A Retirement Banquet Celebration and the Beginning of a New Life,” no one suspected that the retirement celebration for Leatrice S. Denson and Clifford L. Marshall would also be a wedding. Many of the guests at the November 25th celebration at the Ramada Inn were shocked when the ceremony began.

The wedding ceremony was performed by the Reverends Sterling Barkley and Marque Woodard. The bride was escorted by her father, Devurn Glenn. The matron of honor was the daughter of the bride, Sebrena Thomas, and the best man was Antoinious Thomas, son-in-law of the bride. Jade Colston was the flower girl, and Setii-Hod Thomas, grandson of the bride, was the ring bearer.

Denson spent a total of 34 years of outstanding and dedicated service with Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services, the Leon County School Board and different departments in the State of Florida. She retired from the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on June 30, 2006. Marshall has taught for a total of 40 years at Bishop College, FAMU, Tuskegee University, Bethune-Cookman College, Lane College and the University of Arkansas at Pinebluff.

Delores Hudson, sister of the bride, and Ann Forbes-Jones presided over the celebration. Reflections came from Magdi Soliman, director and professor in FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science; via video Henry Lewis III, former dean and professor in FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Forrest Thompson, area coordinator of accounting and finance at FAMU School of Business and Industry.

The daughter and son-in-law of the bride presented the couple with tickets for a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise, which was the wedding trip. They will live in Tallahassee.
